It’s downright nasty and makes you regret every decision leading into it. Jeepers Creepers 3 is a giant steaming pile of garbage, drenched in disappointment and topped off with that disgusting taste in your mouth that surfaces on a pukey burp. The only takeaway from Jeepers Creepers 3is that the Creeper drives a souped up old truck, no doubtably designed by Saw‘s very own Jigsaw - the traps inside it are comically ridiculous and add nothing to the effectiveness of a once terrifying vehicle. Nothing really works and no origins are revealed, aside from the initial plot and trailers hinting towards learning about his past. Jeepers Creepers 3 fails to re-create either of those scenarios and instead bounces around various characters as they face off against the Creeper and attempt to outlive him or destroy him completely. The first film particularly works well as a creepy road trip film with a dark and twisted turn, while the second takes advantage of the secluded location and still mysterious origins of the Creeper. Both of those films are filled with sweeping direction and patient reveal. He shot the first two films with a purposeful eye. Say what you want about Salva as a person, but as a filmmaker he possesses skill and talent. The costume design is somehow worse than the previous two movies, which relied on minimal design, yet fluid shocks and scares.
Gone are the scary cuts of the Creeper stalking his pray or popping up out of nowhere and in are the shots of him flying around with a wink and a smile. The Creeper ( Jonathan Breck) himself is a walking joke. Characters are brought in out of nowhere and seem to make random decisions, based on no real knowledge at all. The plot tries to be clever and directly follow the first movie, while also “setting up” for the second, but there’s no real connective tissue aside from a few minutes. There’s also no rhyme or reason to the decisions made on screen. Visually, I’m to exactly sure what was going on, because Salva cuts away at almost every kill and riddles the film with poor lighting and SyFy-level effects. The lightning is horrid, with most of the shots remaining incomprehensible. The entire production is a disaster, with some of the worst CGI known to movies - the effects are worse than the original, which is over 15 years old and were actually quite good for their time. Oh no, Jeepers Creepers 3 was delivered under-the-radar because Victor Salva has managed to write and direct the biggest pile of shit ever to grace the cinema screens. It has nothing to do with the director’s shady past or the first two film’s somewhat negative responses. Why only one showing and why not for a week? Minutes into the film I realized just why this film was buried. I was initially confused when I found out that Jeepers Creepers 3 was only playing for one night across the country at 7pm. Jeepers Creepers 3 is a slow and confusing mess that ruins the mythos of the character and delivers not one true reveal of his origins. Or at least that’s what the plotline reads, because the actuality of it is quite confusing, with not a whole lot of plot development and even less production value. Set between the events of the criminally under-rated Jeepers Creepers and its decent sequel Jeepers Creepers 2, Jeepers Creepers 3 finds The Creeper terrorizing a farming town as the police attempt to learn about his origins and stop him once and for all. Victor Salva‘s Jeepers Creepers 3 is easily the worst film of 2017 and possibly one of the worst films that I have ever seen.
